I had a wonderful walk in the forest today and found fantastic examples of Hair Ice. This is produced in freezing conditions by the fungi rotting logs, decomposing the wood. The fungi take in O2, break down the long chain carbohydrates in the wood and release Co2 and water. The water freezes into what looks like hairs. True recyclers even in the depth of winter.
